Bridget Olson (PharmD, MS) was a recent speaker at the University of Arizona’s Center for Health Outcomes and PharmacoEconomic Research 15th Annual Invitational Conference: “Pharmacoeconomics – The Next Generation.” The following is an except from her presentation:
“Many health care decision makers do not have formal training in health economics and outcomes research. How then, can they be expected to apply the overwhelming amount of information and research based models to their decision making process? Are there opportunities to more clearly translate and communicate research so that this critical information can be used by decision makers? ... Research / Models > Translated > Communicated = Application. By making the content applicable to decision makers, we are able to inform and impact “real world” decision making”.
Bridget’s presentation was well received by a diverse audience that ranged from academia to industry to payers. Bridget spoke of her experience working directly with decision makers and some of the challenges they face. She described examples of how customers were interested in the research work being disseminated by the pharmaceutical industry, but – even more specifically – they wanted to know how they could apply that information in real world decision making. She also provided illustrations of how some complex outcomes research concepts and modeling methodologies could be more clearly communicated and tailored to specific audience groups.
Bridget is an Account Director at Dymaxium. This presentation is part of Dymaxium’s continued mission to improve the translation, communication, and application of health outcomes research and models to meet the real world needs of health care decision makers.
